Conversations with Priyagni : About Fashion, Modeling, and Life

Selection Stories

Priyagni is a college student who recently completed her graduation and is incredibly passionate about pursuing a career in modeling. For a while, I had been searching for someone at the start of their modeling journey to have a more genuine conversation. Speaking with someone new to the field, rather than a seasoned professional, brings a fresh perspective. On a friend’s recommendation, I spoke with Priyagni and was pleasantly surprised by the clarity in her responses. I wish her all the best in her career ahead, and I hope this article helps her in some way. If you find value or learn something from this conversation, that would be an added bonus. So, let’s dive in!

Q1. How many hours do you usually sleep?

Priyagni: On an average it’s near about 8 hours.

Q2. How much water do you make a conscious effort to drink every day?

Priyagni: 2-3 liter.

Q3. How does modeling generally impact your life?

Priyagni: Modeling has a positive impact on my life because, having been in fashion college for a while, it boosts my confidence – not just about my body, but also about expressing myself and presenting my ideas. It’s ultimately about empowerment and self-assurance.

Q4. Do you love your body?

Priyagni: Yes! Definitely.

Q5. What’s inspire you? Or how it’s started?

Priyagni: I joined fashion college because I’ve been fascinated with the industry for a long time. Actually, my friend became Miss Jharkhand, and I wanted to participate too, but my parents didn’t allow it. That sparked my curiosity, and I decided to explore the fashion world in-depth. I wanted to understand what goes on behind the glamour and how it’s managed. That’s how my journey began, and I joined NIFT college.

Q6. Though not top-rated, can an average model still achieve decent success or earn money?

Priyagni: Usually, the pay isn’t great, but after gaining popularity on Instagram and other platforms, collaboration opportunities arise. However, I don’t think the average payment is substantial.

Q7. Can you share some examples of the products or campaigns you’ve modeled for?

Priyagni: Mostly apparel, but I’ve also done commercial shoots occasionally.

Q8. What’s your pre-shoot thought process like? How do you plan your presentation?

Priyagni: Before the shoot, we prepare by understanding what the client needs – whether it’s a confident or soft look. To get into the right mindset, I listen to music before the shoot, and we also play songs during the shoot to set the desired mood.

Q10. According to you, what matters more in modeling – a person’s looks or their confidence?

Priyagni: It’s all about confidence.

Q11.Explain your relationship with money?

Priyagni: Not that good, I definitely spend too much and mostly spend on cloth and food.

Q12. How do you cope with rejection and criticism?

Priyagni: Honestly, I filter out most unsolicited advice and trust my instincts. It’s a temporary distraction, and soon I’m back to focusing on my priorities.

Q13. What’s society’s outlook on modeling?

Priyagni: Different social classes hold varying opinions about modeling. For instance, the middle class may not appreciate it as much, whereas the upper class has a more open-minded view. Even my parents initially had reservations until they became aware of how fashion colleges and the industry function.

Q14. How can we change the way society views modeling and models?

Priyagni: Changing minds is tough, and it’s even harder when people have conservative views. I think it’s a pretty complex issue.

Q15. What do you think about death?

Priyagni: Nothing, My life going smooth, Not think too much.
