What is meant by women empowerment?

Women empowerment refers to the process of enabling women to have greater control over their own lives and to fully participate in society on equal terms with men.

Now let me tell you a story about a women and then you can decide was she empowered or not?

My nana being a well educated and wise man married an illiterate lady. But that illiterate lady was the most badass women on this planet. She used to scold our area’s councillor like he was a mere kid . One day the councillor came to our house and asked for water , Nani refused and first gave a long lecture about the electricity crisis and then asked me to give him water. Nana was a respected person in the society and everyone used to take his advice but if Nani said sun rises in the west he would accept happily. That was the aura of that lady. She even gained the respect of local Bengalis who used to call her “JETHIMA”.

She never did any official work in her life but I have never seen a woman more independent and hardworking than her. She used to do all the household works by herself, took care of her son’s, daughters and even grandson’s-granddaughters and tried to give them good moral values any chance she had. I don’t think doing these things made her less empowered. But again as a man I have such less knowledge about this topic that I shouldn’t say on my behalf that she was empowered.

So, Was she empowered or not?

Thanks to Om for sharing this story.

This was a short and effective real-life story by Om Shakti Jha.

Empowerment is more than just being educated and financially independent; it encompasses having the confidence, moral values, and courage to stand up for oneself and others, regardless of one’s background or literacy level. For instance, an illiterate woman who possesses strong moral values and raises her voice against societal injustices, even in challenging times, embodies true empowerment. Empowerment is about inner strength, self-belief, and the ability to make choices that lead to personal and communal betterment.

So, I say yes she was empowered.
